Cryptomeria japonica Elegans (Elegant Japanese Cedar)
“Cryptomeria japonica Elegans is a lovely cultivar of the Japanese cedar.
‘Elegans’ has an orange to reddish brown bark that sheds in thin strips. Its foliage transforms throughout the seasons making for unique year-round interest in the landscape. It turns from blueish–green in spring to candescent green in summer before turning to a purple–brown colour over autumn and winter.
It is a slow growing tree generally reaching no more than 3-4 metres in height over a 10 year period, The tiered branches have a drooping tip and can spread to over 1.5 metres, again over a 10 year period.
The tree will thrive if planted in moist but well drained soil and has access to sun or partial shade.
