“Parrotia persica Vanessa (Persian Ironwood Cultivar) is a small, slow-growing, upright and slender deciduous tree.
It has clusters of pinky-red flowers in late Winter and Spring on bare stems, followed by leaves which emerge with bronze edges to its deep green, glossy leaves. A stunning display of autumn colour them proceeds displaying distinctive hues of orange, purple, red and yellow.
The bark of the tree is particularly attractive. It is smooth but will sheds in thin scale-like pieces to reveal yellow and greens patches of colour underneath.
It is an ideal tree for specimen planting in a smaller garden, reaching a potential height of 7 to 8 metres and a 2 to 3 metres spread.
It grows well on most soils, ideally in full sun for the best colour. However, keep away from exposed, windy sites”
