“As a semi evergreen tree, Quercus hispanica Wageningen can hold onto most of its leaves in mild winters but correspondingly drops most of them in colder ones. This can create alarm from the owner but the leaves renew in the spring so nothing to worry about. Quercus hispanica Wageningen thrives on most free draining soils but will fail in wet ones. It is a great tree for parkland or estates and arboretums.
This is a hybrid cross between Quercus Castanefolia, the Sweet Chestnut Leaved Oak, and Quercus Lucombeana, the Lucombe Oak. Its large shiny leaves are best supported on deep fertile soils. When old leaves do eventually fall they turn an attractive yellow/brown.”
