Tetradium danielli (Bee-bee tree) is a medium size, fast growing, deciduous tree. A rare tree from the far-east, great for pollen loving insects, it has attractive, long pinnate/feather-like leaves and clusters of white flower.
The leaves can grow up to 40cm long, with 11 ovate leaflets turning yellow in autumn. Clusters of small, aromatic, cup-shaped, white flowers in late summer may be followed by batches of red fruit in the autumn.
As the common name suggests. the Tetradium is a very valuable nectar source for bees and butterflies whilst the fruits in autumn attract birds. It can grow up to a height of 10 to 12 metres and a width of around 4 to 8 metres in 20 years – its form is bushy and has a broad, open crown.
Will grow in any light, well-drained soil, prefers full sun or partial shade, and should be planted in a reasonably sheltered position.
