Aesculus hippocastanum Baumanii (Baumann’s Horse Chestnut)
“The cultivar Aesculus hippocastanum Baumannii was discovered by A.N. Baumann near Geneva in 1820 and was propagated as a branch sport from the mother hippocastanum tree. It is notable for its double white flowers and the fact that it does not produce conkers, which may be seen as an advantage if required for street or avenue planting. The main branches are rather horizontal, so high pruning is required when used as a street tree.
Aesculus hippocastanum Baumannii can commonly grow in excess of 30 metres and is particularly impressive in the spring with its strong growth and flower display. It thrives in most soils and tolerates air pollution.”
