Ulmus Lutece (Nanguen Elm)

Ulmus Lutece (‘Nanguen’ Elm) is a new hybrid of Elm which is resistant to Dutch Elm disease.

The characteristics of this hybrid are a smooth stem, with its leaf and general appearance similar to native field elm.

It’s very hardy, wind resistant and tolerant of summer drought and winter waterlogging. Tends to begin leafing later in spring and also to drop in late autumn, around the end of November.

Fast growing in well drained soil of any type. Suitable as a specimen tree, coastal, or urban planting. Will grow to a height of up to 10 to 15 metres.

Description

“Ulmus hollandica Dodoens (Elm) as a clone has moderate resistance to Dutch elm disease. A tough large tree, Ulmus hollandica Dodoens is good for verges and avenues, and forms a broadly pyramidal crown. It is fast growing and a good choice for windy, exposed locations including coastal sites.”
